If an implant has a screw-thread on its outer surface it can be screwed into position and if it does not, it is usually tapped into place. The main aim during installation of any implant is to achieve immediate close contact with the surrounding bone. In order to support replacement teeth, dental implants normally have some form of internal screw thread or post space that allows a variety of components to be fitted. To replace all of your missing teeth, previously it would have been common to place 8 to 10 implants per jaw and many times extra surgery such as bone grafts or sinus lifts would be needed. The all on 4 dental implant technique uses the dense bone in the front of your mouth to strategically place 4 implants. 2 of the dental implants are placed at clever angles and so in most cases can avoid any additional surgery.
The planning for this procedure can take several weeks and usually involves taking x-rays and sometimes a CT scan also. Once fully planned the actual procedure can be completed in one day and is also known as 'teeth in a day' or 'same day teeth'. After the implants are placed a provisional set of teeth are attached allowing you to eat and smile straight away. These teeth can be adjusted and modified to ensure that we get the exact appearance that you want and also allows time for healing. After a healing period of 3-6 months your final teeth are constructed and fitted once the dental implants are fully integrated into your bone.

I have had three implants in my bottom set of teeth. The procedure to have three implants was an initial check by my dentist Amit, followed by an x-ray of the bone structure at Ashford Hospital to assess bone density. This was followed by a viability assessment carried out by Amit.
Verbal advice was given by the surgeon on options available followed by a written evaluation. Amit then prepared a financial breakdown of the costs of the procedure for me to consider. After deciding on treatment I had the three titanium implants set in the bone by the surgeon.
Three months later the surgeon located the implants, tested their robustness and covered these with small metal caps. A few weeks later an impression of the bottom teeth was made for the crowns which were subsequently fitted. A follow up inspection of the teeth was carried out a month later.
Throughout the whole procedure Amit were very professional and showed considerable sensitivity and care in their work.
I am very pleased that I decided to have the work done and I am realising the considerable benefits to the quality of life it has brought.

.... Almost inevitably some of the treatment was painful, but if this occurred whilst I was in the dentist's chair, it was always momentarily stopped for recovery to occur and alternative treatments offered where possible. In addition, advice and treatments for possible pain after visits were always also fully explained.
